This rare War of 1812 era American Light Cavalry saber is a highly attractive early American edged weapon, featuring a dramatically curved imported blade, brass hilt, aged ivory grip, full brass scabbard, and surviving portions of its original leather hangers. The blade was likely imported from England and retains elaborate engraved decoration, including patriotic American motifs and the word "Warranted" in gold near the base. The decorative etching remains clearly visible along the blade, giving the saber tremendous visual and historical appeal. The combination of its curved fighting profile, engraved blade, brass mounts, and officer-quality presentation make this a standout example of early 19th century American cavalry and militia sword culture.
The sword retains its original aged ivory grip and is housed in a full brass scabbard with large portions of the original leather hangers still attached to the suspension rings, an uncommon and highly desirable survival. Most surviving sabers of this age have lost their hangers entirely, making the retained leather components especially important. The sheath hanger also appears to bear a period name and date, possibly reading "1814 Stan Paschal" or similar. This inscription deserves further research and may offer an exciting opportunity for future owner attribution, potentially linking the saber to a specific individual, service history, or period ownership. The scabbard tip shows distinct wear and damage consistent with field use, adding to the piece's character and service-worn appearance.
