This original German WWII Waffen-SS M40 helmet is an ET64 example with a correctly rolled edge and retains its likely original liner (size 56) and what appears to be the original chinstrap, both in notably strong condition. The interior rear skirt bears the stamped lot number 898, beneath which a faint raised name is present. While currently indistinct, the name is clearly visible on the rear of the helmet and offers strong potential for further research and possible identification of the wartime wearer. We are able to identify single letters but not an entire name... the winning bidder is highly encouraged to conduct further research in aim to identify the helmets origin. The shell exhibits honest, combat-consistent wear throughout, with scuffing, paint loss, and surface marks indicative of prolonged field use rather than postwar mishandling.

Both decals remain visible in outline form. The SS runic decal on the right retains approximately 8% of its original application, while the national shield on the left retains roughly 5%. The surviving traces suggest the decals were either intentionally abraded in the immediate postwar period or gradually lost through wear and environmental exposure, a common occurrence on helmets that saw extended service. The external condition of the helmet is good with apparent knicks and scratches to the surface paint. Please inspect all images before bidding and inquire for more if needed.

Waffen-SS helmets with documented lot numbers, intact liners, original chinstraps, and visible naming are increasingly difficult to obtain, particularly examples that show some possible evidence of frontline use. This helmet stands as a powerful artifact of the conflict, offering both strong physical presence and the intriguing possibility of uncovering the story of the man who wore it. A compelling acquisition for collectors seeking an authentic, research-worthy SS combat helmet with undeniable historical character. Only available at Treasure Trove Auctions!
