This original US World War I helmet offers a straightforward and honest example of the iconic American “Doughboy” steel helmet. Though the interior liner is no longer present and the faint white insignia once visible on the exterior has since faded, the shell itself remains a solid and authentic relic of the First World War. The classic profile immediately evokes the trenches of Europe and the American Expeditionary Forces’ role in the closing stages of the conflict.
Adopted in 1917, the U.S. M1917 helmet was based on the British Brodie pattern and became synonymous with American troops serving on the Western Front. These helmets were often repainted, marked with unit insignia, or modified during service, and surviving examples frequently show signs of wear, repainting, or loss of liners due to age and use. Also refers to militaria that has seen extensive field wear with lots of character, often desired by collectors and referred to as “salty”. For Antiquities, ground or river finds may be labelled As Found which means they are Untouched, uncleaned, and in original condition from discovery. Any state of Amateur or Professional Restoration or Preservation will be noted.

While we strive for accuracy, all ratings are subjective and based on our best evaluation as determined by a dedicated team of researchers, from expert appraisers to knowledgeable historians and veteran collectors. Third-Party Shipping Option Buyers, both domestic and international, may arrange shipping through a third-party carrier of their choice. However, Treasure Trove Auctions assumes no responsibility for the acts or omissions of third-party shippers, even if they are recommended by our team. International Buyers International buyers are fully responsible for any duties, taxes, clearance fees, or additional import charges imposed by their country. These fees are not included in the shipping cost and must be paid directly to the appropriate customs authorities upon arrival. As the auction house, we handle the packing, shipping, and handling of your purchased items with care. However, we are not global import exports and such as such, buyers must be aware of and comply with their country's import regulations, restrictions, and legal requirements regarding the items they purchase.
