This historically significant 18th century Model 1775 Infantry Sword is attributed to the Kingdom of Sardinia and Savoy and associated with Navy Arsenal production during the late royal period before the French Revolution. The sword features a stout military blade with a simple brass hilt and guard, reflecting the practical sidearms carried by artillery, naval, and infantry personnel during the late 18th century. The blade is especially notable for its period inscription reading "VIVE LE ROY DI____", meaning "Long Live the King," a powerful royalist marking that connects the piece to the turbulent political and military world of pre-Revolutionary Europe. The sword was professionally cleaned and oiled when acquired, helping preserve its surface and overall presentation. No scabbard is included.

The Model 1775 sword belongs to the same broad 18th century military world as the American Revolution, the late Bourbon monarchy, the Kingdom of Sardinia and Savoy, and the conflicts that preceded the Napoleonic era. Originally associated with artillery service and later adapted for naval and infantry use, swords of this type were produced as rugged, functional sidearms for soldiers who required a compact and dependable weapon in the field. The reported production of 58,043 examples reflects its importance as a widely issued military pattern, yet surviving examples with strong royalist inscriptions are far more desirable to collectors today.

This sword is a fantastic artifact of 18th century military history, bridging the Revolutionary War era, royalist European forces, and the changing military systems that would soon be transformed by the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. The "VIVE LE ROY" inscription is the standout feature, adding tremendous historical character and collector appeal. With its preserved blade, brass hilt, royalist marking, and respected collection provenance, this is a strong offering for collectors of American Revolution-era weapons, French and European military swords, royalist artifacts, artillery sidearms, naval weapons, and 18th century militaria.

Provenance: From the collection of a retired French American, Napoleonic, and Civil War-era collector and museum curator who requested to remain unnamed.
